About Me
My name is Christopher Benavides and I am currently a Freshman enrolled at the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire.
This website is the final project for my Writing requirement. The theme of the writing class is Street Art. Prior to the course, I had no recognition of street art due to my upbringing. I come from a rural town in WI. I wasn't exposed to any street art in our town other than homecoming week, where different student groups would construct paintings of our mascot doing something superior to the opponent's mascots on the windows of small businesses located on our main street, which is a common tradition for most high schools. Throughout my childhood and adolescent years, my father, who is a foreman for my family's Construction Company, would drive me and my brother to his job sites in lower-class, inner-city Milwaukee, exposing us to a multitude of things. Everywhere we went, there was a theme: run-down buildings/houses, "gang-like" activities, and vandalism in the form of graffiti. So, because of my upbringing, I came into college with the same viewpoint I did as a child, believing all graffiti was a crime done by a gangster to show dominance or to be rebellious to authorities. But as the semester rolled on, I was exposed to a new, wide range of information pertaining to street art, evolving my weak, dull viewpoint on street art to being strong, and more mature. I became especially interested in one particular street artist named Banksy.
My mission for this website is not just to educate you on street art. Specifically, I want to influence your belief on the infamous street artist, Banksy.
